Services
Physio Therapy
Physiotherapy is a leading, evidence based rehabilitative health care profession. Physiotherapists treat a variety of injuries and illnesses and improve your overall health and wellbeing. They use a combination of manual therapy, use of modalities and exercises to help improve your mobility, strength, endurance and coordination.
Massage Therapy
Massage Therapy is a clinically-oriented healthcare option that helps alleviate the discomfort associated with every day and occupational stresses, muscular over-use and many chronic pain conditions. It is the manipulation of soft tissues of the body.
Chiropractic Services
Chiropractic is one of the largest health care professions in Canada. It is a drug-free approach to health care that includes taking a detailed health history, performing a physical examination and forming a diagnosis and customized treatment plan for the patient. Chiropractors assess patients for neurological and musculoskeletal disorders related to the spine, pelvis and extremities.
Acupuncture and Laser Therapy
Acupuncture
Acupuncture treatment compliments the other medical practices and entails stimulating certain points on the body, most often with a needle penetrating the skin, to alleviate pain or to help treat various health conditions. It is one of the oldest healing practices.
Laser
Theralase cold laser treatment is a non-invasive and pain free form of treatment that uses infrared laser radiation, referred to as photons. It decreases formation of pain producing factors, increases cellular metabolism, improves cell generation, produces an anti-inflammatory response, stimulates nerve function, decreases swelling, and much more.
Hydro Therapy
Aqua therapy consists of a customized exercise program performed in water. It is performed in a warm water spa, which helps to relax muscles, increase range of motion, and increase blood flow to the injured area. The patient will be taken through a series of movements and exercises by an expert practitioner to aid in the healing process.
Shockwave Therapy
Shockwaves are acoustic waves, which carry high energy to painful spots and musculoskeletal tissues and can reverse chronic inflammation, stimulate collagen production, dissolve calcified fibroblasts, disperse pain mediator “substance P” and release trigger points. The effect of treatment is cumulative and usually leads to experiencing relief after the first treatment.
Services
Spinal Decompression Therapy
Non-surgical spinal decompression provides pain relief for compressive and degenerative injuries of the spine by applying decompressive forces, thereby maximizing spinal elongation and opening the disc spaces.
Research conducted by doctors from Johns Hopkins University, the Mayo Clinic, Stanford University and other prestigious medical institutions documented the success of spinal decompression. If you are suffering from
back pain, sciatica or any symptoms due to a herniated disc, bulging disc, degenerative disc or posterior facet syndrome, you may be a candidate. The number of sessions and duration of treatment required varies depending on the patient’s response to treatment and type of condition.
Non-surgical spinal decompression can be used to treat:
- Sciatica
- Bulging or herniated discs
- Degenerative disc disease
- Posterior facet syndrome
- Spinal nerve root compression
- Low back pain with pain referral to legs, tingling, numbness and weakness
It is not recommended during pregnancy or for patients with:
- Advanced osteoporosis (decreased bone density)
- Fractures
- Metastatic cancer
- Abdominal aortic aneurysm
- Prior lumbar fusion
- Spondylolistheses (unstable)
- Recent compression fractures of the spine below L1
- Pars defect
- Pelvic or abdominal cancer
- Disc space infections
- Severe peripheral neuropathy
Hemiplegia, paraplegia or cognitive dysfunction
Pre & Post Operative Care
Pre-Operative Care
Pre-operative care is receiving treatment prior to a scheduled operation. Research has indicated that a few sessions of pre-operative care and treatment can greatly decrease the post-operative treatment needs of a patient and speed up their recovery. A patient’s pre-operative care needs are determined based on a detailed assessment of the patient’s injury and current functional status. A customized treatment plan is then created, both for in clinic treatment and at home exercises to prepare the patient for surgery.
Post-operative care
Post-operative care varies depending on the needs of the patient. It can begin while the patient is still in the hospital and include discharge planning from the hospital, assessment of the home environment to ensure patient’s safety and independence and provision of specific assistive devices to aid in the recovery process while ensuring patient independence.
Post-Operative treatment follows a specific customized protocol, depending on the type of surgery and physical and functional status of the patient. This protocol is used to improve a patient’s ranges of motion and strength, while gradually returning the patient to full function.
Our team of experienced health care providers have been delivering pre and post operative care to our patients with great results, leading to shorter recovery times, less pain and faster return to pre-injury status.
Balance & Gait Treatment
Balance
Vestibular, visual and proprioceptive senses contribute to our ability to maintain balance. Biodex Balance System is used for assessing and treating patients with abnormal results in these three senses.
Gait
Injuries, vestibular disorders, neurological disorders, strokes and many other factors can impact a person’s gait. The Biodex Gait Trainer is used to assess and treat patients with gait disorders by analyzing the patient’s step length, right and left leg weight distribution, step speed and time spent on each leg. Once the assessment is completed, a Gait training program is created to re-train the patient to evenly distribute step-length, weight, speed and duration of time on each leg. The program provides the patient and practitioner with visual feedback to correct their gait pattern.
Isokinetic Therapy
The Biodex Isokinetic system is used to target specific areas of injury and aids in muscle strengthening, increasing ranges of motion and joint healing. It is designed to be a safe and effective method of assessing and treating ankles, knees, hips, wrists, elbows, shoulders and the spine.
It can be beneficial for treatment of post-surgical weakness, quadricep insufficiencies and many other areas of injury.
